As one does when New Year’s Eve rolls around, I spent the weekend reflecting on all that’s happened in 2018. Lately, I’ve been pretty caught up in the day-to-day, as well as looking forward to the future, so I was a little surprised to realize just how significant this past year was for us.
I spent the first half of 2018 investing all my spare energy into baking and growing Flour Covered Apron. In July, I got to celebrate one year of food blogging, which was a really proud moment for me! I’m so grateful for everyone who has followed along, tried my recipes, and traded baking inspiration with me.
But as much as I loved investing so much into my baking, I had to take a (big) step back during the second half of this year to invest in our family. Ben and I moved to a new apartment this spring, then took some much-needed time off this summer to go on our first ever international trip together (to Paris & London)! Shortly afterward, Ben made a big career change and to top it all off, we found out we had a baby on the way! We expect 2019 is going to be just as crazy (if not moreso), but we can’t wait!
As I reflected on this year, I really enjoyed looking back at which recipes were your favorite. I thought it would be fun to share that list with you, so without further ado, here are the top five most popular recipes from 2018!
#1: Copycat Milk Bar Birthday Cake
This Copycat Milk Bar Birthday Cake was the most popular recipe on the blog this year by far! You all went crazy about this variation, developed with the home baker in mind. And really, between the layers of milk-soaked funfetti cake, crunchy birthday cake crumbs, and rich cream cheese frosting, it’s not hard to see why!
#2: Blackberry Chocolate Cake w/ Blackberry Mascarpone Filling
In July, I celebrated my one year blog anniversary with this Blackberry Chocolate Cake. It has three layers of rich dark chocolate cake, a creamy blackberry mascarpone filling, and a fudgy blackberry chocolate frosting. It’s my peronsal favorite recipe from this year and I was so happy that you loved it too!
#3: Vegan Lemon Poppy Seed Baked Donuts
I can’t decide what the best part about these Vegan Lemon Poppy Seed Baked Donuts is… the naturally tinted blueberry glaze? The ease of baking them in your oven? Or the fact that they’re vegan? There’s a lot to choose from!
#4: Lavender & Earl Grey Scones
These Lavender and Earl Grey Scones were developed in collaboration with my friend Daniela from Tea Cachai. I loved learning different ways to incorporate tea into my baked goods from a certified tea expert!
#5: Triple Chocolate Flourless Brownies w/ Salted Caramel
And finally, I challenged myself to develop more gluten-free recipes in 2018, which is where these Triple Chocolate Flourless Brownies topped with Homemade Salted Caramel came in. These indulgent brownies did not disappoint!
Thank you for all the love and support this year! It means the world to me. Here’s to lots more baking in the new year!
